Thank you so much for sharing this interview Richard. I’m going to watch Ruby Bridges now because I definitely didn’t get to see it when I was at school- too old for that 😬

Just says to me, these parents, the ‘Participation Trophy’ generation, are themselves either not educated completely (there seem to be large gaps in Common Core that were de rigeur learning to my generation) or are emotionally stunted somehow- for maybe the same reason. The only other reason I can see is mass hysteria. DeSantis is tapping a thus unused vein unreasonable vitriol and his adherents just run with it. Even the most uptight generations of yore over hundreds of years weren’t put off by art, naked or otherwise. It’s positively troglodyte at this point in time.

*There are exceptions to my comment about generations of yore objecting to art-of course there was the Reformation which was basically much about religious icons and ridding the country of them (that would be just post medieval times England, prior to David)-but the Renaissance is what followed and Michelangelo a huge figure in it. Not sure anyone, even these mind-shuttered Floridians, want to return to the medieval.

Thank you so much for this very necessary and timely writing . Sometimes we weep being triggered by the reality of people taking the wrong road purposefully , to accommodate hatred and fear .

More likely fear and then hatred. Ive often thought of the lost opportunity these parents are hanging around their kids necks .

By not allowing them to even be open to reality and the empathic result.

They do their children a terrible injustice and perpetuate the evil of racism.
